This summer, the Boardman library will focus on family during its weekly Family Story Times. On June 1, the facility hosted its summer kickoff for the family-friendly gatherings.

Children’s librarian Karen Saunders hosted the event and offered games and rhymes that entertained kids of all ages and their parents.

“Today’s focus is on rhyming, which is a great literacy tool for beginning readers. We share a tip each week so that parents and kids can improve their skills,” Saunders explained.

During the event, Saunders arranged the group in a circle and two young guests would stand in the center of the circle as the others went “hunting.”

Singing “a hunting we will go,” the song had the group finding a brontosaurus in a chorus, a pig in a wig and a skunk in a bunk.

The families at the event then completed a spiral box craft and then were free to explore the library.

Rose Barredo brought her 2-year-old daughter, Jasmine, to the event.

“She loves it here. Every time I say, ‘Let’s go to the library,’ she always gets a big smile on her face,” Rose Barredo shared.

Saunders simply hopes local families think of the library when they need a friendly event for all ages.

“Sometimes it’s hard to entertain an elementary-age sibling who is out of school and a toddler at the same time. We hope our weekly Family Story Time can offer a little something for everyone,” Saunders noted.
