Despite drenching rains and cool temperatures, 13 girls ages 10-19 spent 24 hours taking turns walking for the Relay For Life at Boardman Center Middle School May 13.

“Team Burke’s” efforts had the support of two adults, Linda Tanksley and Anne Frederick, both of Canfield. The generous support of family and friends buoyed the girls’ spirits and made the walks in the rain more purposeful and rewarding.

“Team Burke” received numerous prizes at the Boardman Relay For Life May 14. The team of Juniors, members of Golden Rose Queen of Ireland LAOH-Mahoning County, are students of the Theresa Burke School of Irish Dance in Youngstown.

The team won “Best Relay Theme,” “Most Spirited Award,” “The Advocacy Award,” plus first place in their division and second place overall for donations totaling $8,861.80.
