YOUNGSTOWN

A 21-year-old city man remains in Mahoning County jail on a $55,000 bond facing felonious- assault charges in the shooting of his 20-year-old girlfriend.

Patrell Scott, 21, of Park Vista Drive, appeared Friday before Judge Robert Milich of Youngstown Municipal Court for arraignment. He pleaded not guilty and asked for a court-appointed attorney before the judge handed down the $55,000 bond.

Police were called to a shooting at 4:18 p.m. Thursday at 2430 Tyrell and found Melesia Day, 20, upstairs on the floor in her apartment. She’d been shot in the neck.

Patrell was sitting on top of Day trying to talk to her and keep her alert. Patrell and another man who was at the apartment told police a bullet had entered the apartment from outside, hit Day and then went into the ceiling.

Reports say officers found a shell casing in the apartment for which neither Scott nor the other man could offer an explanation.

Police also spoke to the apartment manager who said the hole in the wall where police were told the bullet entered was “old damage.” A concerned citizen told police the shot definitely came from inside the apartment.

Officers arrested Scott on charges of felonious assault. Day was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center and was listed in critical condition late Friday.

Police reports show two previous incidents of domestic violence involving Scott and Day.

Officers were sent to the Tyrell Avenue address in January where they found Day crying and holding the right side of her jaw. According to the reports, she told police that Scott, the father of her 2-year-old daughter, became enraged and hit her in the head several times because she did not want to be intimate with him.

Police in August 2010 were sent to a South Side location in regard to an altercation between Scott and Day. At that time Day told police Scott slapped her in the face after a disagreement about their child.

Scott also has been arrested for misconduct at an emergency for preventing paramedics from assisting a man injured in a car accident. He also was arrested for having loud music in a motor vehicle in 2008 and, as a juvenile, for possession of drugs.
