Canfield swimmers almost FAST enough

Neighbors | Submitted.Canfield Swim Club member Ben Brucoli got set to swim the freestyle for the boys 13-14 age group June 17. The team lost to FAST 237-260.

The Canfield Swim Club had plenty of event winners, but the team fell short against FAST, losing a 260-237 decision on June 17.

Triple first-place winners for Canfield included Marissa Landers, Sarah Heaven, Connor Brady, Mickey Velasquez, Kyle Anderson and Gavin Trebilcock.

Medley relay winners were the teams of 8 and under girls Maya Marucci, Maddie Hammond, Marissa Landers and Lauren Fitzgerald; 8 and under boys Sirin Nalluri, Gianni Gaetano, Velasquez and Joey Battista; 9-10 girls Gina Landers, Mackenzie Hammond, Lexie Sauders and Elle Dawson; 9-10 boys Jason Paris, Evan Skripac, Danny Beistel and Bobby Kutsch; 13-14 girls Rachel Nagy, Heaven, Jamie Wellham and Mara Kohut; and 13-14 boys Anderson, Matthew Bogen, Brady, Alec Gaetano.

Marissa Landers, Luke Dietz, Gina Landers, Maggie Beistel, Heaven, Bogen and Trebilcock all finished first in the freestyle. In the 50 backstroke, Marucci, Dietz, Maggie Beistel, Heaven, Brady and Trebilcock each touched first.

Velasquez, Mackenzie Hammond, Skripac, Sam Cannon, Anderson and Trebilcock were tops in the breasstroke and Gina Landers, Brady and Adam Weiss won the butterfly.

In the free relay, the 8 and under team of Lily Grdic, Jordan Hemlick, Marissa Ieraci and Erin Chaplow and the 13-14 team of Kyle Anderson, Jared Rothbauer, Ben Brucoli and Alex DiThomas placed first.

The Canfield team is coached by Kylie Gamelier and assistants Emily King and Jim Kopp.
