Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

A man was charged with felonious assault and a woman was in critical condition after a shooting Thursday on Tyrell Street on the city’s West Side.

After being called to a shooting at 4:18 p.m. at 2430 Tyrell, police found Melesia Day, 20, upstairs on the floor in her apartment.

She’d been shot in the neck, reports said.

Police said Scott Patrell, 21, of Park Vista Drive in Youngstown was sitting on top of Day trying to talk to her and keep her alert. Patrell and another man who was at the apartment told police a bullet had entered the apartment from outside, hit Day and then went into the ceiling.

Officers called detectives and the crime lab.

Patrell and the other man were taken to the police station for questioning.

Police arrested Patrell at 6:50 p.m. He was taken to the Mahoning County jail.

Day was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in critical condition, police reports said. The hospital would not update her condition late Thursday night.
