AUSTINTOWN
Fitch High track standouts Makayla Martin and Jen Shiley will continue their track and field careers at Youngstown State University.
Shiley, a Division I state qualifier in the 300-meter hurdles the past two seasons, holds school records in that event, as well as the 4x100 and 4x400 relays and the shuttle hurdle relay.
She’s also a four-time indoor state qualifier and a three-time regional qualifier. Shiley won the 300 hurdles and was a member of the winning 4x400 relay at this year’s district meet, helping the Falcons to their first district championship since 1999. She also set the Federa League record in the 300 hurdles at this year’s meet.
In 2009, Shiley was the Mahoning County champion in four events, earning MVP honors.
Martin, a high jumper/long jumper, is a three-time regional qualifier. She jumped 5-foot-4 at this year’s regional meet to finish fifth — one spot short of the state qualifiers. She earned All-Federal League three times.
Fitch High graduates Brittany Amicone, Alexis Cooper, Taylor Entzi and Alexis Hall were all members of this year’s YSU track and field team.
