POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

June 15

Criminal damaging: Police arrested two juveniles who were released to the custody of their parents after someone had tossed water balloons and shattered a vehicle’s windshield in the 3000 block of Spitler Road.

June 16

Identity fraud: A man discovered $525 missing from his credit-card account at a Poland bank.

June 18

Assault: Two men shoved each other during a fight in the 2900 block of Palmarie Drive, though neither was injured.

June 20

Breaking and entering: Brian J. Reese, 27, of 51 Parnell St., Youngstown, was charged with having fictitious license plates, a fourth-degree misdemeanor, after police responded to a break-in at East Point Place, 8828 Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road, in which numerous cartons of cigarettes were missing. Reese, however, was not charged in the break-in.

Harassment: A Shepherds Ridge Drive man reported his 16-year-old daughter had been receiving such calls.

BOARDMAN

June 17

Arrest: A vehicle check on Market Street led to the arrest of 43-year-old Nicholas D. Velazquez, 224 Ayers St., Youngstown, who was wanted on a probation-violation charge from Dauphin County, Pa.

Arrest: Police pulled over a car on U.S. Route 224, then took 25-year-old Katelyn A. Bowden into custody. Bowden, of 5 Circle St., Niles, was wanted on a warrant from that city.

Theft: Janet L. Gullick, 42, of 2133 Kensington Ave., Youngstown, was charged in the theft of $145 worth of merchandise from Kmart, 1209 Boardman-Poland Road.

Aggravated menacing: A Youngstown woman told officers another woman threatened to break her neck as the accuser was leaving an East Midlothian Boulevard business.

Theft: A worker for a South Avenue store reported his wallet stolen.

Misuse of a credit card: A Shields Road woman noticed a $57 unauthorized online charge to her debit-card account.

Misuse of a credit card: A man opened the latest in a series of accounts at Seven Seventeen Credit Union, 7371 California Ave., using a false Social Security number.

June 18

Theft/criminal damaging: A West Boulevard man discovered eggs had been thrown at his residence, and that a radio and a decorative stuffed animal were missing.

Theft: A woman stole $72 worth of merchandise from Sears in the Southern Park Mall.

Burglary: Occurred in the 2900 block of Grover Drive. A woman discovered $320 missing from her purse.

Drugs: Andria N. Gothot, 31, of 703 Trumbull Ave., Girard, faced two counts of drug possession and one of possession of drug paraphernalia after being pulled over on Market Street, and when, police said, three pills, a bag of suspected marijuana and a bowl with suspected marijuana residue were found. Officers also cited 30-year-old Bobbi J. Kosmo, 56 W. Chalmers Ave., Youngstown, on a drug charge.

Theft: A man from Linz, Austria, staying at a South Avenue motel reported the theft of his passport.

Vandalism: A Linger Place woman reported vandals cut her clothesline, overturned lawn chairs and damaged a patio stone. Police also answered a similar complaint in the 1800 block of Basil Avenue.

Theft: A woman at a California Avenue restaurant said her former boyfriend stole her $111 cellphone.

Robbery: A Youngstown woman at a South Avenue car wash told authorities a man in his 50s wearing sunglasses and a black pair of pants, shirt and ball cap held a knife to her stomach and demanded money. The woman fled on foot but suffered a minor injury after pushing the knife away, a report said.

Burglary: To a residence in the 300 block of Shields Road, from which two TVs and $10 were stolen, for a $1,460 loss.

June 19

Aggravated menacing: A Poland man alleged an employee of Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive, pointed a box cutter at him, then made a threatening comment during an argument related to the man’s receipt.

Arrest: Officers picked up 34-year-old Jessica L. Diaz at her home, 721 Canterbury Drive, Boardman, on a warrant from Struthers charging her with failure to appear in court.

Breaking and entering: Someone broke into an Ohio Edison Co. substation in the 6400 block of Southern Boulevard and cut numerous large grounds attached to transformers.

Harassment: A Cedar Way woman told police her former boyfriend followed her in his vehicle and sent about 14 unwanted voice mails and text messages.

Burglary: To an apartment in the 4500 block of Southern Boulevard by forcing open a door. Forty compact discs and numerous pieces of jewelry were among items missing.

Arrest: Officers stopped a vehicle near Midlothian Boulevard and Interstate 680, then arrested 25-year-old Darryl T. Armstrong Jr., 725 E. Avondale Ave., Youngstown. He was wanted on a probation-violation charge.

Theft: Two people stole a $59 box of flea treatment from Harbor Pet Center, 7338 Market St.

Burglary/animal cruelty: Someone broke into and ransacked a residence in the 6000 block of Applecrest Court before stealing a laptop computer, a Nintendo game system and related accessories. The burglar also drowned two hamsters in a fish tank and killed two fish, a report showed.

June 20

Drugs: A traffic stop on Glenwood Avenue led to the arrest of 39-year-old Shaneeh Y. Battles, 4204 Rush Blvd., Youngstown, on charges of drug abuse (cocaine) and possession of drug paraphernalia. Battles, who also was wanted on a probation-violation charge, had a spoon containing powder that tested positive for cocaine, a report showed.

Attempted theft: Two people tried to steal a $72 pair of shoes from Shoe Carnival, 550 Boardman-Poland Road.

Criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 400 block of Boardman-Canfield Road was found with damage to its rear driver’s-side door. The estimate was $200.

Harassment: A Forestlake Drive woman reported a phone scam in which the caller claimed she had won $1.5 million but first needed to send $53 to someone in Kingston, Jamaica.

Identity fraud: A Larkridge Avenue woman found out someone had opened an account with her Social Security number.

Breaking and entering: Copper fittings and piping, among other items, were removed from a construction site someone had entered in the 7800 block of Market Street. The loss came to $1,022.

Harassment: A Melbourne Avenue woman reported a man she had met via an online dating service has been sending unwanted emails.

June 21

Arrest: Police charged 28-year-old Robert L. Swope, 2502 Sierra Drive, Youngstown, with misuse of the county 911 system, obstructing official business and disorderly conduct after responding to an emergency call from a Market Street gas station. Swope, who became loud and belligerent, had hung up on a 911 dispatcher, authorities said.

Drugs: Patricia A. Camuso, 43, of 4294 Patricia Ave., Youngstown, faced two drug-related charges after police responded to a possible drug deal in the 5100 block of Market Street. Two bottles with different pills and two items from which to inhale crack cocaine were found, a report said.
