YOUNGSTOWN

The C-SPAN digital bus will be in Youngstown from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at OH WOW! The Roger and Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science and Technology, 11 W. Federal St. downtown.

C-SPAN’s digital bus allows visitors to experience C-SPAN’s public-affairs content across high-tech platforms such as HDTV, the Internet and radio. Hands-on demonstrations feature the C-SPAN video library and the network’s social-media offerings. There are special resources for civics teachers and their students.

Gunfire reported

Police are investigating reports of gunfire near Mill Creek Boulevard and Brookfield Avenue.

A man told police he was sitting on his back patio around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday when he heard a vehicle slow down in front of his Mill Creek Boulevard home. Two gun shots fired rapidly, and the vehicle sped away, according to reports. Police said they recovered one .40-caliber pistol shell casing, and no homes appeared to be hit.

Two teens charged

Police have charged two township teens with attempted burglary and two counts each of breaking and entering.

Officers arrested a 16-year-old boy who lives on Erskine Avenue and a 15-year-old boy who lives on Arlene Avenue after neighbors near two vacant homes on Border Avenue reported two male teens and a female look-out were trying to break into the houses, according to reports.

The two teens were arrested around 7:20 p.m. Wednesday on Argyle Avenue east of Erie Street and admitted to trying to force their way into vacant homes at 5731 and 5797 Border Ave. The two were taken to the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center.

OVI checkpoint

CANFIELD

Ohio State Highway Patrol announced that an operating-a-vehicle-impaired checkpoint will be from 9 p.m. to midnight today on Glenwood Avenue near the Youngstown Playhouse.

The checkpoint is funded by federal grant money to combat alcohol-related and fatal crashes, said Lt. Chris Heverly, commander of the patrol’s Canfield Post. If you plan to drink alcohol, designate a driver or make other travel arrangements, Heverly added.

Flag disposal

Sons of the American Legion Mahoning Valley Squadron 15 will sponsor its 10th annual flag-disposal ceremony at 8:45 a.m. today at the War Memorial Building Post 15 Home, 35 Cortland St.

The public is invited to attend and participate in the ceremony where worn, frayed, torn and/or faded American flags will be honorably retired. The ceremony is in conjunction with the annual “Celebrate Poland” events, including a parade at 7 p.m. and fireworks at 10 p.m.
