Arizona police checking computer system after hacking

Phoenix (AP) — Arizona state police say security checks are under way to determine the extent of an attack on the agency’s computer system.

A rogue overseas group claimed it successfully accessed the Department of Public Safety computer system and sensitive case files — even the phone numbers and addresses of some officers.

Capt. Steve Harrison said today the investigation will determine how the Lulz Security hacking collective got into the server, then steps will be taken to ensure it doesn’t happen again.

Harrison says the documents that Lulz accessed do not appear to be overly sensitive because DPS doesn’t deal in classified information.

But Harrison adds that information might have been obtained that the DPS doesn’t want to fall into the hands of drug traffickers and other criminals.
