Three church mergers begin in diocese

St. Nicholas Parish and Holy Trinity Parish, both in Struthers, are among three church mergers currently taking place in the Diocese of Youngstown.
The parishes will merge July 1 with the new name of Christ Our Savior Parish. The mailing address for the merged parish is 764 Fifth St., Struthers.
Youngstown Diocese Bishop George Murry will celebrate Mass at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at St. Nicholas, 764 Fifth Ave. The new parish council and finance council will be installed. The parishioners will exchange symbols and gestures representing the uniting as one parish.
St. Aloysius Parish in East Liverpool and Immaculate Conception Parish in Wellsville merged on June 19 with the new name of Holy Trinity Parish.
St. Ann Parish in East Liverpool will be suppressed (closed) on Jan. 1, 2012, at the request of the parish.
The mailing address for Holy Trinity Parish will be 512 Monroe St., East Liverpool.
St. Clement Parish in Navarre and St. Therese Parish in Brewster will merge, effective July 1, with the new name of Holy Family Parish. The mailing address for the merged parish is 216 E. Wooster St., Navarre.
The mergers are part of the Diocese of Youngstown Parish Reconfiguration Plan, which began in 2008 and was promulgated by Bishop Murry in May 2010. The plan includes parishes which remain as single parishes, collaborative units and merged units.
Seven mergers of churches already have been completed.
