Public hearing set on Trumbull projects

KINSMAN

A public hearing will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the Kinsman Township Community Center, 6346 state Route 87, regarding the use of $496,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds for four proposed projects.

The projects include $333,600 for sewer improvements in Kinsman, $73,000 in street improvements in Hubbard, $15,000 for fair-housing assistance and $74,400 for grant administration.

Aid available for summer-energy bills

WARREN

The Trumbull Community Action Program, 1230 Palmyra Road SW, will begin scheduling appointments for the Summer Crisis Program on Monday.

Eligible applicants can receive a one-time payment up to $175 on electric bills. Households with a member who has an illness or disability who would benefit from continued electric service, and/or air conditioning, verified by a physician, are also eligible.

Income-eligible households with a member 60 or older are qualified to receive one air conditioner if none was received in 2008, 2009 or 2010 and/or one payment for the current electric bill up to $175.

Income guidelines for 2011 range from $21,780 per year for a single-person household to $52,340 for a household of six.

Civil-service tests

hubbard

Hubbard Civil Service Commission will give civil-service tests for positions July 30.

Tests for police chief and part-time to full-time patrolman are scheduled for 10 a.m. A test for a part-time dispatcher will be given at 1 p.m. Tests will be given at the city administration building, 220 W. Liberty St.

Applications must be submitted by 3 p.m. July 8. Applications for dispatcher are available at the police department, 233 School St.

FOP fundraiser

WARREN

Lodge 34 of the Fraternal Order of Police, which represents employees of the Warren Police Department, is conducting a phone drive to raise money for the organization. The FOP is working with Rosewood Production Co. on the project.

Farmers Market

HOWLAND

The Howland Township Farmers Market has begun and will continue through Oct. 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays at the township gazebo on East Market Street near Howland High School.

Clean-water program

NEW CASTLE, Pa.

The Pennsylvania American Water Company will host an introductory “Source Water Protection Technical Assistance Program” meeting at 2:30 p.m. today at its operations center, 2736 Ellwood Road. Anyone interested is invited to attend.

The program’s goal is to identify and implement precautions to prevent contaminants from entering the community’s groundwater. Input gathered from the session will help in developing a plan for the Shenango River watershed. The river is Pennsylvania American Water’s primary source of supply for its nearly 17,000 New Castle-area customers.
