Pa. AFSCME, state negotiators reach deal
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Negotiators for Gov. Tom Corbett and the union representing about 45,000 state workers have reportedly reached a tentative contract agreement.
The Patriot-News of Harrisburg reports the state and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Council 13 forged a tentative agreement late Wednesday night.
AFSCME executive director David Fillman tells the newspaper the tentative deal was reached after a 14-hour negotiating session. It was the third consecutive day of talks.
Fillman did not release details of the agreement, saying Corbett’s office would release the terms today. The proposed contract would take effect July 1.
The Patriot-News reports that negotiations with the Service Employees International Union Local 668 broke off Wednesday night.
A total of 17 unions representing about 60,000 workers have contracts ending June 30.
