Western Pa. man to stand trial for stabbing police chief

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A suspect charged with aggravated assault after a struggle with a western Pennsylvania police chief has been ordered to stand trial.

Stonycreek Township police Chief David Dunkleberger testified Tuesday at the preliminary hearing of 33-year-old Jeremy Brehm of Johnstown.

Dunkleberger said he responded April 29 to a 911 call at a Johnstown apartment of a woman being stalked by a boyfriend or ex-boyfriend.

Authorities said Brehm was found hiding on a second-floor landing. Dunkleberger said Brehm wrestled him as he was trying to arrest him, and that he was stabbed in the knee with a butcher’s knife concealed in Brehm’s coat.

Dunkleberger was treated at a hospital, and Brehm was later taken into custody by Johnstown police.

Brehm pleaded not guilty on Tuesday. He’s next due in court July 26.
