Feds probing Allegheny County Jail, but mum on why

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Federal authorities are investigating unspecified wrongdoing at the Allegheny County Jail in Pittsburgh, but are not saying why.

County spokeswoman Megan Dardanell tells reporters that officials are cooperating with the probe and says a federal warrant was served on the facility Friday.

But Dardanell would not elaborate, and the FBI and U.S. Attorney’s Office are not saying what prompted the investigation. The FBI confirmed an ongoing probe, however, and says nobody has been arrested yet.

Acting Warden Daniel Burns has not commented on the investigation. He replaced Warden Ramon Rustin who gave less than a month’s notice in December before leaving to take a similar job in Benalillo County, N.M.
