Ohio fire engine replaces truck lost to Ala. tornado

COLUMBUS (AP) — An Alabama fire chief has come to Ohio to collect a large-scale contribution to tornado relief: a fire engine.

Chief Dean Harbison from Cordova, Ala., drove out of Columbus on Monday in a truck donated by the fire department in suburban Truro Township.

Township fire Chief Jerry Foltz tells The Columbus Dispatch his counterparts from the South lost five fire trucks in a late April tornado and he had one to give. His department had no success with trying to sell a fire engine from the 1985 model year and overhauled in the 1990s.

Tornadoes on April 27 in Alabama killed more than 240 people and did major damage.

Harbison says his department is struggling to recover. A condemned pharmacy is now substituting for the firehouse, which was crushed.
