Ohio elections chief supports later 2012 primary
COLUMBUS (AP) — Ohio’s elections chief has put himself on record supporting a plan to hold the state’s 2012 presidential primary in May, instead of March.
Secretary of State Jon Husted said in a speech Monday to the Ohio Association of Elections Officials that the delay would give state officials more time to redraw congressional districts. Ohio is losing two of its 18 U.S. House districts because of population shifts reflected in the 2010 Census.
The primary move is included in a wide-ranging election reform bill that passed the Ohio House, though not in the state Senate’s version of the legislation. Husted says he expects the Senate to come on board.
