Ohio AG supports right-to-cure legislation

COLUMBUS — Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today announced his support of the "Right to Cure" bill in an Ohio Statehouse press conference.

The legislation is intended to help consumers and business owners come to a quick and fair resolution when there's a dispute that reaches the court level.

"I believe Right to Cure is a pro-consumer and pro-business proposal," DeWine said. "Our Consumer Protection Section handled more than 31,000 Ohio consumer complaints last year, resolving most of them with informal dispute resolution. When consumers choose to take their dispute to the court level, we think Right to Cure will help expedite the process."

Ohio's Consumer Sales Practices Act was enacted in 1972, so consumers could pursue businesses for deceptive and unfair business practices. With the Right to Cure bill, both businesses and consumers have an incentive to reach a reasonable settlement early in the litigation process.
