WASHINGTONVILLE

Barbara Fisher of Beatitude House was the guest speaker May 24 at Mason’s Steak House for the induction of new officers into the Columbiana Area Business & Professional Women’s Club.

Fisher stressed the importance of educating women for the workplace and giving them the skills for taking care of themselves and their families.

Beatitude House serves women and children caught up in the cycle of poverty and homelessness. Programs, services, love and support help them break the cycle.

More than 30 people attended as the CABPW meeting addressed upcoming events, including an outing to the National Packard Museum with a tour and dinner at the Upton House in Warren; a picnic in Columbiana; and a style show on Oct. 8 at the Salem Golf Club.

The annual style show marks the 60th anniversary of the chapter’s participation in the national organization. Reservations at a cost of $25 can be made by emailing columbianabpw@yahoo.com or by calling Lori Everly at 330-853-5896. The proceeds from this event benefit the Educational Fund for area college scholarships and the Christina House Shelter.

This year’s event will showcase as models some of the area scholarship winners along with representatives from Girl’s State from area high schools that also were sponsored by the CABPW.

The CABPW meets the fourth Tuesday of most months. The meeting place changes based on the program being presented. The organization’s mission is to empower working women to achieve their full potential and to partner with employes to build successful workplaces through research, education, knowledge and policy.

Membership is open. Anyone interested in joining should contact Everly at the above number, email leverly1101@aol.com or call Judi Allio, membership chairwoman, at 330-332-4186. Annual membership dues are $46.
