Judge Peter Kontos of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court set bond at $75,000 for Aswad Fleming, the 22-year-old city man who Warren police say led them on a 26-minute chase May 8.

Fleming was being held without eligibility to make bond until Monday, when he was arraigned on single counts of felonious assault, failure to comply with the orders of a police officer, failure to stop after an accident and tampering with evidence.

Fleming pleaded innocent to the charges and returns to court June 29.

The chase began when Sgt. Emanuel Nites attempted to stop Fleming for having loud music in a motor vehicle on East Market Street, but it quickly escalated when Fleming narrowly missed a motorcyclist and two people on a moped. The chase proceeded across the northern half of the city. At times, the chase came to a complete stop. At one point, Fleming reportedly handed a brown bag out the window to another person.

A Warren police officer was injured in a crash involving his cruiser and a citizen’s car during the chase. Several other crashes resulted in minor injuries and damage to several vehicles, including a cruiser from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
