Boardman trustees reject 9 bids for project

Township trustees rejected all nine bids that had been submitted for repaving several streets because the cost of each exceeds estimates by the Mahoning County Engineer’s office.

The township was willing to spend up to $276,000 on the project, but all nine local and regional bids came in over that figure, Larry R. Wilson, road superintendent, said at Monday’s trustees’ meeting.

Bids came from local companies as well as those in the Akron and Cleveland areas, he said.

As a result, certain streets likely will be dropped from the resurfacing program. The department will advertise again for bids by July 15, Wilson noted.

Also at the session, new Fire Chief George Brown said he’s updating the township’s fire code to bring it more in line with the state fire code, something he hopes will be in place by Jan. 1.
