Beatriz weakens to tropical storm off SW Mexico

MIAMI (AP) — Beatriz is losing steam and has weakened to a tropical storm after pounding the Pacific coast of southwest Mexico as a hurricane.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami says the government of Mexico on today discontinued a hurricane warning from La Fortuna to Cabo Corrientes.

Beatriz’s maximum sustained winds have dropped to near 70 mph. It is now about 95 miles south-southwest of Cabo Corrientes and moving west into the Pacific at near 14 mph.

Beatriz’s center is expected to move farther from land and continue weakening over the next 48 hours.
