‘Champions’ event to host Smith, Simon

The United Way of Youngstown and Mahoning Valley will welcome back former Chaney and Missouri star Brad Smith, who has played in the NFL for the New York Jets the past five years.

Smith will be the keynote speaker for the 6th annual “Champions Among Us” dinner, sponsored by PNC Bank, on Thursday at Mr. Anthony’s Banquet Center. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for a silent auction followed by the dinner and program at 6:30.

Joining Smith will be former Cardinal Mooney star John Simon, who will be honored by the United Way as the local champion who has represented the Valley in a positive manner. Simon is an emerging star at Ohio State University on the Buckeyes defensive line.

Smith and Simon will be available for interviews between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m.
