YSU students work as interns

YOUNGSTOWN

A dozen Youngstown State University students are working at nonprofit organizations this summer through the Nonprofit Leadership Summer Honors Internship Program.

The program, run by the YSU Center for Nonprofit Leadership, matches college students to nonprofit organizations for paid summer internships. It is funded through a $40,000 grant from the Raymond John Wean Foundation.

In all, more than 30 nonprofit organizations andnearly 70 students applied to participate in the program. The following placements have been made:

HandsOn Volunteer Network of the Valley has selected Cherise Benton, professional writing and editing major, to be its Youth Volunteer Corps intern.

Humility of Mary Health Partners Development Foundation has selected Laura White, psychology major and social-work minor, to be its foundation intern.

Lien Forward Ohio Community Foundation has selected Amanda Sigler, political science major, to be its special events/volunteer management intern.

Mahoning County Board of Developmental Disabilities has selected Emily Dickinson, human- resource management major, to be its human-resource intern.

Mahoning Valley Historical Society has selected Jamie Petrus, marketing major and nonprofit leadership minor, to be its communications intern.

Meridian Community Care has selected Laura Hanley, marketing major, to be its special events/social media intern.

Salem Community Hospital has selected Courtney Dixon, family and consumer studies major, to be its volunteer management intern.

United Way of Youngs-town and the Mahoning Valley has selected Alexandria Airhart, advertising and public relations major, to be its marketing/special events intern.

Youngstown Area Goodwill Industries Inc. has selected Victor Robinson, Information Technology major, to be its Web Development/Database Management Intern.

Youngstown Area Jewish Federation has selected Pamela Stoklosa, accounting major, to be its accounting intern.

Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. has selected David Slanina, who is seeking a master’s degree in economics, to be its Lots of Green Program intern.

YWCA-Youngstown has selected Melissa McClelland, family and consumer studies major and nonprofit leadership minor, to be its marketing/work-force development intern.

All students in the program have a minimum 3.0 grade-point average, are of at least senior standing and have a declared major.

The project engages students from across campus in professional development opportunities with the nonprofit community and fulfills the mission of the YSU Williamson College of Business Administration, which is to prepare undergraduate and graduate students for productive and fulfilling careers as leaders in business, government, nonprofit organizations and society. The Center for Nonprofit Leadership offers a certificate and a minor in Nonprofit Management and Leadership, which can be combined with any major on campus.
