VOLANT, Pa.

A Volant Independence Festival featuring an interactive Amish Wedding Feast has been set for Saturday. Reservations and prepayment of the $25 fee are required for the wedding feast that will take place at the Volant Meeting House. For more information, call 724-533-5515. Other scheduled events include a colonial festival at James Creek, corn-hole games at the Shoppe at River’s Edge, an apple pie contest at noon at The Kitchen Shoppe; a hula hoop and limbo contest and water-balloon toss from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Depot Lot; The Doug Butchy Trio from 8 to 5 p.m. at Special-Teas, Etc.; and sack and three-legged races at 3 p.m. at the Volant Mill. Amish doughnuts and baked goods will be among treats available for purchase. Shops will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Identify wildflowers

Join the Mercer County Conservation District for a free two-part introductory course on identifying wildflowers of Pennsylvania at 6:30 p.m. June 28 at Munnell Run Farm, 753 Greenville Road. The the first session introduces various techniques and tools used to identify wildflowers with the assistance of environmental educators. The second session allows participants to take what they have learned and apply it to flowers they will have collected. To pre-register, call 724-662-2242 and ask for either Chris or Jacqueline. Work discrimination

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s mobile-outreach center will visit the Youngstown unit of the NAACP on Friday to accept complaints of employment discrimination based on race, religion, sex, national origin, age (40 and older), disability or retaliation.

The EEOC considers retaliation the firing of a worker who complained about job discrimination, gave evidence in a job discrimination matter or filed a charge of job discrimination with the commission.
