Stadium kids celebrate Memorial Day
Stadium Drive kindergartner Alayna Spencer (center) couldn’t help but smile as she sang about being proud to be an American.
Former Marine Bill Moyer helped out his daughter, kindergarten teacher Candi Kominak, with her room party. He also took some time to hang out with his new friends Landon Weaver (left), Christopher Hill, and Craig Karr (right).
Logan Malysa showed his love for America, and the Red Sox, in his bright red T-shirt.
After the concert, it was time for the kindergartners to enjoy quality time with their families. Rebekah Badur (left) gave a big hug to her dad, Drew Badur, who serves in the Air Force.

To honor the service men and women who have given their lives in battle, the kindergartners at Stadium Drive Elementary performed a concert on May 27 of patriotic songs to celebrate Memorial Day.
Kindergarten teacher Barb Gonda explained that the focus on the patriotic holiday is a new aspect of the spring concert.
“The spring concert used to be just a performance, but the kindergarten teachers thought that it was important for the students to understand the message behind Memorial Day. The focus changed and we work very hard to teach the kids about service, sacrifice, and what it means to be an American.”
During their concert, the kindergartners sang patriotic favorites like “Yankee Doodle,” “This Land is Your Land,” and “God Bless the U.S.A.” After the students were done performing, a slide show of past and present service men and women in the Stadium Drive family was shown to the crowd. Guests from each branch of the military were honored and asked to stand during the tribute.
The students and their guests then traveled to the school’s kindergarten rooms to celebrate with snacks and drinks.
Rebekah Badur ran to give a big hug to her dad, Drew Badur, who serves in the Air Force.
“Rebekah shows me that she appreciates my service by spending time with me and generally being a wonderful daughter,” Drew Badur said of his kindergartner.
Teacher Candi Kominak welcomed her dad, former Marine Bill Moyer, to the event, and hoped her students learned from the many inspirational stories of service abound at the event.
“We don’t ever want that deep respect and patriotism to be lost. Having so many past and present service members here today is a real honor,” Kominak shared.
