Walk or run for a good cause in Boardman

Boardman St. Charles Fr. Venglarik K of C #11915, 7345 Westview Dr. is hosting a 5K Run/Walk throughout its neighborhood June 25 at 9 a.m.

Registration is $15 before the race, $20 the day of and $45 per family.

New records at festival run

Amanda McNinch from Poland took first overall in the women’s division of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Festival 5-K run June 11 with a time of 21:47. She was followed by Jen Love 22:11 and Amanda Fire 22:47. McNinch’s time in the women’s run set a record in the 30-34 group.

Paul Robinette from Girard ran 17:21 to capture the men’s award with Jason Tatarka second 17:21 and Joshua Reid third 17:42. In the men’s 70 and over group, Lou Alaksin set a new record with a time of 22:15.

Boardman track wraps up at state

The Boardman boys track team concluded its season with the regional and state track meets.

Spartan sophomore Nathan Jones qualified for state by placing fourth in the region in the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.97, in Columbus Jones did not qualify for the state finals.

Other Spartans that scored at the regional meet were senior Leandre Jackson who placed sixth with a jump of 6-6. Also, freshman Mark Hadley finished seventh in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:29.

Hadley represented the Spartan Track and Cross Country programs June 17 in the Freshman 1600 at the 2011 Outdoor National Championship Meet in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Hadley is currently ranked 18th in the country in the event.
