Outstanding seniors honored at awards event

Canfield High School hosted its annual Senior Awards Assembly in the high school auditorium June 1 to honor the school’s top seniors.

Valedictorians Arthur Brant, Emily Gleichert, Danielle Goddard, Eva Laino, Gia Velasquez and Mary Wirtz and salutatorians Lauren Lewis and Gretchen Scheel were singled out for their achievements.

“I thoroughly enjoyed celebrating the efforts of my classmates as they were recognized for their outstanding academic performances. Our class is an extremely talented group of students. I can’t wait to see what they do next,” Velasquez said of the assembly.

“I was thrilled to be named the Math and Spanish Student of the Year. They have been my long-term goals since I attended the assembly my freshman year.”

More than 22 different types of awards were given at the assembly, including awards presented by the United States Marine Corps along with those presented by different departments of the school.

Principal Michael Moldovan presented the following seniors with awards for their 4.0 GPA: Brittany Bobovnyik, Arthur Brant, Anna Brocker, Dina Casciano, Emily Gleichert, Danielle Goddard, Eva Laino, Amanda Myhal, P.J. Stickle, Gia Velasquez, Mary Wirtz and Cally Wollet.

Margaret Stephens presented the following students with awards for perfect attendance: Michael Bleggi, Anna Brocker, Rachel Smith and Gia Velasquez.

Annette Kay presented Gretchen Scheel with a National Merit $2,500 scholarship award. Gleichert and Velasquez were awarded National Merit Commended Scholars.
