May was an “A-Maze-ing” month at the Boardman library, and guests enjoyed maze-themed story times and activities throughout the branch all month. The final celebration of labyrinths came to the library on May 25, when the activity room was transformed into a web of boxes, tunnels and mazes for kids to explore.

Although technically a celebration of mazes, childrens’ librarian Karen Saunders used her story time to explore some of the characters that hide in mazes or boxes. The kids remembered the famous story of the Jack in the Box and Saunders played a game where the students had to guess the animals exiting a maze. A pink pig, a mouse and a donkey made an appearance during Saunders mini-maze.

The story time was short so the kids could have proper time to explore the labyrinths decorating the room.

Kim Skala followed around her son, Bryan, as he explored every tunnel he could find.

“We love the Boardman programs. He’s been attending them since he was 2, and he absolutely loves reading. Although, I must admit, I think the mazes are more exciting than the books at the moment,” Skala shared.

Ian McCaskey attended the event for the first time with his mom, Laura.

“We live here, but this is our first time trying out the program. It’s wonderful and I’ll definitely be bringing him back for summer reading,” Laura McCaskey said.
