In keeping with club tradition, the Rotary Club of Canfield invited C.H. Campbell first-graders to sing at its May 20 meeting. The students were directed by C.H. Campbell music teacher Janet Williams and accompanied by fourth-graders on recorders and guitars.

“It is the Rotary Club of Canfield’s tradition to highlight our schools’ music programs in May, so this year we invited the first-grade students of C.H. to perform several songs for us,” said Dante Zambrini, Canfield Rotary Club president, as he introduced the group.

The students started their performance by singing “This Land is Your Land,” and part way through the song, changed the lyrics to include Ohio and Canfield. They then continued with the “Days of the Week Song,” starting the song with the first verse of the “Addams Family” theme song.

The first-graders then presented the “Brush Your Teeth Song,” during which they pretended to brush their teeth and then sang the perennial favorite of “The Lion Sleeps Tonight,” complete with hand motions to coincide with the lyrics.

To close their program, the students belted out “Yellow Submarine,” which they turned into a recycling song about taking care of the Earth with lyrics such as “We all live on a planet that was green.”

The Rotarians enjoyed the program so much that, by popular request, the choir performed an encore of the “Days of the Week Song.”
