Ex-Conn. school dean gets prison for sex assaults

LITCHFIELD, Conn. (AP) — A former dean at an exclusive Connecticut boarding school has been sentenced to 9 1/2 years in prison for sexually abusing four students.

Forty-six-year-old Robert Reinhardt, former dean of The Gunnery school in Washington, Conn., was sentenced Friday in Litchfield Superior Court under a plea deal. He’ll also have to register as a sex offender after prison and serve 30 years of probation.

Reinhardt pleaded guilty to second-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor. He said in court he was “sorry for all the events that have occurred.”

He resigned as dean in June 2009 after the allegations surfaced and was arrested two months later.

Relatives of his victims hugged and cried as Reinhardt was led out of the courtroom in handcuffs.
