The board of education has 14 candidates for the new part-time school district superintendent, unless the board decides to contract with another district for services of a superintendent.

The board Monday formally accepted the May 31 resignation of Ronald Barry Morrison as superintendent.

The board hired Michael Hanshaw, as superintendent of the Trumbull County Educational Service Center, to be interim superintendent, at no cost, a service offered by the county center, effective June 1.

The deadline for applicants for the new post was Friday, although the board has not decided how it will fill the position yet, said treasurer Brian Stidham.

Morrison, who retired from Lake County schools as superintendent, was hired as part-time superintendent under a contract which ran from Aug. 1, 2010, to July 31, 2011.

He was to work for 80 days at $345 a day for total of $27,600 as part-time superintendent. He exceeded his days of work by April and was given a stipend of $20 a day by the board after offering to continue working for free.

The board also hired Laura Wise as a high school math teacher for $30,722 a year and Jody Conway as high school special education teacher at $35,023 for the 2011-12 school year.

Adult lunch prices were set at $3 per lunch for next school year. No price had been established for adult lunches before.

Student lunches are $2.50.
