Hubbard police dept. makes more changes

Staff report

HUBBARD

There is another change at the police department. Sgt. David Oaks, a 20-year veteran of the department in various capacities, is acting police chief. Sgt. Lou Carsone, who had served as acting chief since Jan. 7, is planning to retire later this year.

Carsone became acting chief when Martin Kanetsky was placed on administrative leave. Before that, Carsone had planned to retire but that plan was on hold until now.

Martin Kanetsky officially retired Wednesday. Kanetsky, who was put on paid administrative leave Jan. 6 by Mayor Richard Keenan, had signed a settlement agreement Feb. 5 along with the mayor and city Law Director Jeff Adler. Kanetsky went on medical leave on Feb. 3. He had been named chief in February 2003. He was hired a part-time officer in April 1985 and then full time in January 1986.

The civil service commission will meet today to discuss the testing process for picking a new chief and possibly set a test date.

Oaks said the department has 14 full-time and eight part-time officers.
