Suburban Philadelphia township suspends fire company

BENSALEM, Pa.
A suburban Philadelphia township says it has suspended the operations of a local fire company.
Bensalem Township officials said in a statement Monday that leaders of the Union Fire Company have failed to follow the township’s “administrative and operational directions” over the past year or year and a half.
The township cited “numerous incidents and events” but gave no specifics. The statement said the decision should not reflect poorly on the “loyal and dedicated” majority of volunteer firefighters.
Officials said other companies have been assigned to cover the company’s territory until the issues are resolved, which they said they hope can be done quickly.
The fire company did not immediately return a message seeking comment Monday afternoon.
