Police: Man killed roommate, called police

ERIE, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a northwestern Pennsylvania man fatally stabbed his roommate then called police to report it.

Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook says 51-year-old John Mares died of a single stab wound to the chest Saturday night at his apartment in Erie.

Mares’ roommate, 37-year-old Robert Charles Duval, called police Saturday night to report the stabbing. Duval was charged Sunday with homicide and possessing an instrument of crime.

Details about what prompted the stabbing were not immediately released.

Duval is being held at the Erie County Prison. It was not clear if he had an attorney.
