El Salvador takes 6-1 decision over Cuba

Rodolfo Zelaya scored a goal in each half, and El Salvador kept its hopes of reaching the Gold Cup quarterfinals alive with a 6-1 soccer rout of Cuba on Sunday.
Osael Romero, Lester Blanco, Arturo Alvarez and Eliseo Quintanilla also scored for El Salvador, which must wait out the remaining two days of group stage games. The top two teams in each group advance, along with the two best third-place teams. Costa Rica and El Salvador both finished behind Mexico with four points, but Costa Rica has the edge in goal differential.
“We’re waiting on the other results,” Zelaya said. “Hopefully we were able to get the goals to move forward.”
Jeniel Marquez scored in the 83rd minute for Cuba.
Bradley Wiggins wins Criterium du Dauphine
LA TOUSSUIRE, France
Britain’s Bradley Wiggins held on to win the Criterium du Dauphine race in the Alps on Sunday as Joaquim Rodriguez took the seventh and final stage.
The victory by the 31-year-old Wiggins, a former track specialist and Olympic champion, showed his strong form in the mountains less than three weeks before the July 2 start of the Tour de France.
Wiggins finished with an overall time of 26:40:51. Cadel Evans of Australia was second, 1:26 behind, while Alexandre Vinokourov of Kazakhstan was another 23 seconds back in third.
Ryan, Twichell take 5k swim national titles
FORT LAUDERDLAE, Fla.
Sean Ryan easily won the men’s 5-kilometer race at the USA Swimming Open Water National Championships on Sunday, leading from start to finish, while Ashley Twichell narrowly avoided a mistake at the end to win the women’s event.
Ryan, who lost by just two seconds in Friday’s 10-kilometer race, took advantage of the calm waters to widen the gap between him and the rest of the pack with each lap. The 18-year-old from Chattanooga, Tenn., beat out Chip Peterson and Ryan Feeley by more than a minute, winning in a time of 53 minutes, 11.79 seconds.
Contador spokesman confirms Tour plans
BARCELONA, Spain
Three-time Tour de France champion Alberto Contador will compete in this year’s cycling showcase despite an upcoming hearing that could result in a doping ban.
Contador spokesman Jacinto Vidarte on Sunday confirmed to The Associated Press reports that the Spaniard will be at the start when the race begins July 2.

Juan Mauricio Soler won the second stage of the Tour of Switzerland on Sunday to take the overall lead in the last major warmup for the Tour de France.
The Colombian climbing specialist broke clear in the final half mile to finish in 4 hours, 23 minutes, 20 seconds for the 87-mile mountain stage from Airolo to the Crans-Montana ski resort.
