Joe Wielbruda, Ursuline grad, signs with North Florida
JACKSONVILLE, Fla.
Joe Wielbruda, a graduate of Ursuline High School, has joined the baseball program at the University of North Florida.
Wielbruda previously attended Midland (Texas) Junior College in Midland, Texas, helping the Chaparrals to 67 wins in two seasons. He was named All-Western Junior College Athletic Conference first team both seasons and was named Midland’s most outstanding offensive and defensive player. He batted .428 as a freshman and .429 as a sophomore, recording 165 hits, 97 runs, 26 doubles, and three triples with 52 RBIs. He was also selected all-region.
At Ursuline, Wielbruda helped the Fighting Irish to three district championships and two regional titles. Ursuline played in the state championship game in Wielbruda’s sophomore season.
He also played in the Youngstown Class B League with R&J Trucking, and with the Yuma Scorpions in 2009, helping that team to the 2009 Arizona Winter League championship and boasting the third highest batting average in the league (.453).
North Florida is a Division I baseball school and a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Ospreys finished this season with a 27-27 record.
