Fatal auto accident
MERCER, Pa.
Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a one-car accident in Mercer County that left a 25-year-old Mercer man dead.
Police said Albert Mount was driving on Route 62 in Coolspring Township when his car traveled into the northbound lane, hit a fence and flipped onto its roof around 10:30 p.m. Saturday. The accident was not discovered until early Sunday.

Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley received $3,000 from Target Corp. to support the food bank’s BackPack Program at Campbell Elementary School.
The BackPack Program, designed to meet the needs of children when other resources are not available such as on weekends and holidays, distributes a bag of child-friendly, nutritious food to eat over the weekend to 150 third- and fourth-grade students. The funds received from Target will be used to help sustain this program throughout the 2011-2012 school year, said Michael Iberis, executive director of Second Harvest.
Since 1946, Target has given 5 percent of its income to communities. Today, that giving equals more than $3 million every week, said Laysha Ward, president of community relations for Target.

Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council recognized Liberty Township at a dinner Wednesday at the Holiday Inn in Independence for its energy-efficient projects.
The township recently installed a LED sign at the township administration building at 1315 Churchill-Hubbard Road; it is energy efficient and computer operated. Rest rooms at township parks also were upgraded to be energy efficient. LED lighting will be installed this summer on the bridge on Shady Road.
Dog training center plans open house

The Learning Dog Training and Enrichment Center will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at its new location, 757 N. Main St.
The center has a new building, agility course and expanded retail section.
Area shelters and pounds will attend with photos of adoptable animals. Trumbull County Dog Pound will offer microchipping. All proceeds will benefit shelters in attendance.
Participants will receive a free goodie bag, and there will be games and contests. A swimming pool and sandbox will be available.
Adopt a dog, cat at AWL open house

The Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County is sponsoring an open house for people interested in adopting dogs and cats at its shelter.
The open house will be 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the shelter, 545 Brunstetter Road SW in Lordstown.
