Many Watson students watch Laura Lindvig on WFMJ Today in the morning before school, but they didn’t expect that they’d be able to meet her in person.

On May 17, the students of Dana Elias’ second-grade classroom received a special visit from Lindvig to tape a segment for WFMJ’s “Celebrate Reading” week.

Lindvig entered Elias’ classroom, with a cameraman in tow, and explained the reason for her visit.

“On the news, I have to read every day from a teleprompter. Because everyone at WFMJ loves to read so much, we teamed up with Huntington Bank to celebrate reading all this week,” she shared.

Lindvig and her co-anchors at WFMJ read stories at local schools and libraries from May 16-20 to commemorate the week.

The students had been focusing on traditional fairy tales and twists on the often-told tales, so Lindvig selected from the fairy tale library for her story time.

Lindvig chose the books “Peeping Beauty,” “The Princess and the Pizza,” and a retelling of the classic, “Cinderella.”

During her story time, Lindvig shared memories of growing up reading.

“I was an only child and my parents used to tuck me in for bed and read to me and my dog,” Lindvig remembered. “What do you like about reading?” she ventured to ask.

“I like learning different things. One time I took out so many books from the library that I had trouble carrying them home,” second-grader Daysha Dandridge explained.

“I hope you always stay that excited about reading,” Lindvig said.
