Preschoolers bond at beach day

Although the staff and students of Poland Presbyterian Preschool will be spending the summer apart, both wanted to celebrate the upcoming summer with a day at the beach.
On May 20, the preschool students came to school outfitted in their best bathing suits, cover-ups and flip-flops with their favorite beach towel in hand.
Although the kids didn’t really spend the day at the beach, teacher Julie Simington found that the kids learned a great deal about summertime.
“Today, we talked a lot about how to be prepared for the summertime and how to stay entertained. We taught the kids about summer safety, like using sunscreen and always wearing a life jacket near the water. Although they physically won’t be here for the next few months, we hope they’ll keep these good lessons we taught them in their minds,” Simington shared.
The day was also a chance to learn about the animals found near beaches and in the ocean. In the previous weeks, the students even completed a science project about ocean water.
Student Gavin Catheline and his family were responsible for snacks. The Cathelines brought Goldfish crackers and a pudding cup, with the cup decorated to show a Teddy Graham cracker lounging next to a Nilla wafer beach, complete with a tiny umbrella.
“My favorite part of the day was laying on the beach towel. I don’t get sunburned in here,” preschooler Swathi Padmanabbon observed.
