Forty-eight third-grade students from five classes at Hilltop Elementary School descended on the Canfield Rotary Club’s meeting May 27 to delight the Rotarians with their singing voices. As is tradition in the Rotary, the club invited the students to perform a mini concert during its meeting.

The students, under the direction of Hilltop Elementary School music teacher Tom Scurich, chose selections from their year-end Famous Americans show. Roni Sue Gregory accompanied the students on piano.

“In preparation for Memorial Day, and along with our tradition, the students will perform songs from their upcoming Famous Americans program,” said Dante Zambrini, Canfield Rotary Club president.

To start the program, the third-graders sang Ohio’s state song, “Beautiful Ohio,” which was introduced by a student, as several selections were. Next, the students sang “Fifty, Nifty United States” by Ray Charles.

In introducing the next selection, “Armed Forces Salute,” Scurich asked the Rotarians to stand during each branch’s anthem if he or she had served America in that branch of the armed forces.

“Our Rotarians have served their country well and you have brought great pride to them today through that song,” said Zambrini.

To close their performance, the students sang “God Bless America,” and Scurich asked the Rotarians to join in the chorus with the third-graders.
