More than 50 teams competed for bragging rights and trophies during the Youngstown Youth Flag Football Association spring season playoffs last weekend at Boardman High School. Team champions were crowned in five divisions with games being played on both Saturday and Sunday in perfect weather conditions.

The Miami Dolphins, who had lost in overtime to the Green Bay Packers the previous week, rebounded to beat their rival 20-6 to win the 5-6 division championship.

The 7-8 division championship game featured the two best teams — New England and Buffalo. Although the Patriots kept it close the entire first half, the Bills found a way to make plays in the second half to wrap up an undefeated season and the title.

The most competitive division in the playoffs easily was the 9-11 “A” division, with over half of the teams with no more than one loss. With all the higher seeds making it to the second day of the playoffs, the top four seeds battled it out in the final four. Ultimately, the undefeated Green Bay Packers upended the New York Jets in the title game, 34-6.

In the 9-11 “B” playoffs, the Buffalo Bills rallied from a 14-point halftime deficit to defeat the Chicago Bears and claim the title. In the 12-14 division, the New England Patriots beat the Arizona Cardinals for the third time this season and earned the team title.
