Boardman Italian teacher earns national honor

Neighbors | Submitted.Boardman High School teacher and Foreign Language Department Chair Maddalen Amero has been selected as an NEH Summer Scholar from a national applicant pool to attend one of 34 summer 2011 study opportunities supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities..She will travel to Rome, Italy and participate in a four-week program called "The art of teaching Italian through Italian art." .

Maddalen Amero, a teacher and Foreign Language Department Chair from Boardman High School, has been selected as an NEH Summer Scholar from a national applicant pool to attend one of 34 summer 2011 study opportunities supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities.

The endowment is a federal agency that each summer supports seminars and institutes at colleges, universities and cultural institutions so that teachers can study with experts in humanities disciplines.

Amero will participate in an Institute titled “The Art of Teaching Italian Through Italian Art.”

The four-week program will be in Rome, Italy, and directed by Professor Roberto Severino, Emeritus, Georgetown University, and co-directed by Professor Luigi De Luca, the Italian Cultural Society of Washington and Professor Lucia Dalla Mont , Ufficio Scuola, Embassy of Italy.

The approximately 715 NEH Summer Scholars who participate in these programs of study will teach almost 90,000 American students the following year.
