Power restored to Detroit City Hall, Cobo Center
DETROIT (AP) — City crews have restored electricity to Detroit City Hall, a downtown convention center, a university campus and other buildings.
Temperatures hit the 90s earlier this week, prompting increased air conditioner use and causing aging municipal power lines to fail.
Mayoral spokeswoman Karen Dumas says all power lost Thursday afternoon is expected to be restored later today. Traffic signals downtown are already working again.
Crews worked overnight to repair the power lines. The municipal system serves public buildings, so the outage didn’t affect most residential power users.
The plant where the lines failed is owned and operated by the city.
Temperatures in Detroit peaked at 95 on Tuesday, easily topping the upper 70s average high for this time of year.
