Pa. teen killed by lightning strike was doing farm work
SADSBURYVILLE, Pa. (AP) — Officials say the 13-year-old Pennsylvania boy killed in a lightning strike was bailing hay with his father when he died.
The Lancaster County coroner’s office says Levi Lantz was struck around 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Sadsbury Township as a line of strong storms moved through the area.
Coroner Dr. Stephen Diamantoni says the boy’s father was driving a team of horses when he felt a tingling sensation then heard a loud clap. When he turned around, his son was on the ground.
Emergency officials responded to the scene but could not revive the teen. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lightning strikes were being blamed for power outages and several small fires in the wake of the storms, which follow record high temperatures across eastern Pennsylvania.
