NC officer shot dead while serving murder warrant
KINSTON, N.C. (AP) — A veteran North Carolina investigator was shot and killed while serving a murder warrant on suspects at a house in the eastern part of the state, authorities said.
Investigator Warren Lewis of the Nash County Sheriff’s Office was shot Thursday night while he was working with a fugitive task force to investigate a June 2 slaying, said Sheriff’s Lt. David Wooten.
“He was the kind of man you would want your son to be,” Nash County Sheriff Dick Jenkins said at a news conference today.
Jenkins said Lewis’ death creates a void in the department that will never be filled.
“I never saw him when he wasn’t happy,” Jenkins said. “He enjoyed what he did more than anybody even that I know.”
