Motocycle fun run benefitting domestic violence shelter is Saturday

WARREN

Someplace Safe Inc., a Trumbull County domestic violence agency, will receive the proceeds from the third annual motorcycle fun run organized by the Ladies of the Highway Riders.

Sign-ups for the Saturday event begin at 10 a.m. at Dennison’s Deelight, 2185 Parkman Road.

The first bike will leave at noon.

Cost is $10 for single riders and $15 for pairs.

The event will include dinner, door prizes, trophies, a D.J. and 50/50 and home-computer raffles.

Crushed by truck

A truck driver suffered serious but nonlife-threatening injuries Wednesday morning at the Kmart Warehouse Distribution facility, 541 Perkins Jones Road. The man, whose identity was not being released, suffered pelvis fractures and was transported to St. Joseph Health Center, said Bazetta Township Fire Chief Dennis Lewis. The man was walking near a loading dock when another driver backed a trailer into him, crushing him between the trailer and the dock.

Mosquito Safety Day

The township police department in conjunction with Mosquito Lake Marina will have its ninth annual Safety Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Mosquito Lake State Park. The day includes fire and police department vehicles and representatives, fingerprinting of children and a medical helicopter.

Booths from safety organizations such as the Youngstown Bomb Squad, Trumbull County Sheriff Dive Team, Trumbull County Hazardous Materials team, Birds in Flight Sanctuary and U.S. Coast Guard will be on display.

Free boat rides will tale place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bicycles and other prizes will be given away.

Dog walkers event

Friends of Fido, volunteer dog walkers of the Mahoning County Dog Pound, will sell Philadelphia candy bars and Friends of Fido T-shirts from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Walmart, 6001 Mahoning Ave.

Newton Falls Public Library Board of Trustees will have a special meeting at 9 a.m. Saturday at 204 S. Canal St. Newton in the Palmer Meeting Room to amend the resolution requesting the Trumbull County auditor to certify the current assessed tax valuation.
