It’s been more than 40 years, but the store that now houses Macy’s at Eastwood Mall soon will have its first full-store makeover.

The Cafaro Co. announced Thursday that Macy’s, the apparel, accessories and housewares giant, soon will undergo a multimillion-dollar renovation.

“The mall itself got a major renovation back in 2006, and that took care of a lot of common areas of the mall,” said Joe Bell, director of corporate communications for Cafaro. “Macy’s has been a longtime staple of the mall, and at some point, the Macy’s management decided it was time to do it.”

The two-level, 157,000-square-foot Macy’s will have new flooring, ceiling and wall treatments, accent lighting and fixtures.

The aisles also will be configured to improve sight lines.

The store area, which opened in conjunction with the mall in 1969 as a Strouss and later changed to Kaufmann’s in 1986 before it became Macy’s in 2005, will remain open for business throughout the renovation process.

Macy’s did not immediately respond to a request to comment.
