Ex-employee accused of hammer attack

Police arrested a 60-year-old township man is accused of using a hammer to smash his former employer’s truck.

Joseph I. Avers was arrested around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for vandalism, police said.

Avers is accused of causing nearly $1,000 in damage to a truck owned by Energy Wise, a company on Youngstown-Poland Road, around May 15, reports state.

Avers resigned from the company May 11 of his own accord, a company employee told police in reports.
