Warren Police chief: No action taken against officers in May chase
WARREN — Warren Police Chief Tim Bowers has concluded that no administrative action will be taken against any of the Warren police officers involved in a May 8 police chase.
The chase, which began when Aswad Fleming, 22, of Warren, fled from Sgt. Emanuel Nites as Nites attempted to make a traffic stop on Fleming for loud music, resulted in several crashes and injuries, none of them serious.
The chase lasted 26 minutes and involved the handoff of a brown bag from Fleming to another individual and a crash that sent Patrolman Patrick Hoolihan to the hospital.
An internal affairs officer and a police captain differed on whether Nites should have ended the chase shortly after it started. “This was an unfortunate incident that was caused by Mr. Aswad Fleming,” Bowers said. “The officers responded to the best of their abilities.”
