Grant to aid renovation of Dairy Farmers plant
Staff report
NEW CASTLE, PA.
A $2.5 million grant will help renovate the Dairy Farmers of America’s New Wilmington Plant and will result in 275 full-time jobs.
Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett on Wednesday released the multimillion- dollar Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grant for the construction of a new milk receiving facility, water silo room and refrigeration at DFA’s 134,000-square-foot manufacturing plant.
Aside from the job growth, DFA will be able to ensure support for 1,072 Pennsylvania farms.
“This is an investment into the future of Lawrence County,” said county commissioners chairman Steve Craig. “DFA provides family-sustaining jobs for the community. Not only does this company impact the county from an industrial standpoint, but it also impacts our agricultural community.”
DFA acquired the plan in 1998; it has operated since 1950.
The project will break ground this summer and is expected to be completed near the end of 2012.
